Effective temperature in the quench of coarsening systems at and below T_c

Marco Zannetti

Abstract

The effective temperature is a powerful tool characterizing the deviation from equilibrium of slowly relaxing systems. In this talk the behavior of the effective temperature in the quench of coarsening systems at and below T_c is overviewed, as dimensionality is varied. The difference between critical and subcritical quenches is analysed in detail, with emphasis on the non trivial behavior at the lower critical dimensionality, where T_c=0. Implications for the scaling exponent of the response function are illustrated. The proposed pattern of behavior is expected to be of general validity for phase ordering processes.
