APENet: LQCD clusters a la APE

Roberto Ammendola

Abstract

APENet is a custom interconnect architecture, developed within  the INFN APE group, expressly designed to exploit PC clusters  with Lattice QCD numerical applications. It is a three dimensional  toroidal network of high speed, low latency point-to-point links,  and each computing node is equipped with our PCI-X based device with  6 full duplex communication channels.
The main hardware/software features will be presented, together with  the standard micro-benchmark results and some application-level  benchmarks.
