John Udell from BYTE has written this report on the installation of Usenet newsgroups. This makes a good introductory reading.

Installation of client software

I have installed trn on Unix machine (alboot). It seems to work well apart from some small problem like:
  • Command l gives the following error message as answer: 
    /bin/sh: newsgroups: not found
    (Error from newsgroups program)
  • Sometime I get a very long list of new unsubscribed groups (it suffices to answers N to skip them).
How about using Netscape as client?

Alternative NNTP server

We are using news.caspur.it, but what about the INFN experimental service? There is also this list of available servers.
