Infrastructure for BIg data and Scientific COmputing – IBiSCo
The objective of the IBiSCo (Infrastructure for BIg data and Scientific COmputing) project is threefold:
- on the one hand, carry out, validate and fully demonstrate in a real operating environment a very substantial enhancement of the scientific computing infrastructure in Southern Italy, already financed in the past by the PON 2007-2013 (e.g., PI2S2, SCOPE and RECAS projects) and from the Ordinary Functioning Fund of MIUR (DHTCS project);
- on the other, contribute significantly to “Pillar 2: Infrastructure” of the “Important Project of Common Interest on High Performance Computing and Big Data enabled Applications” (IPCEI-HPC-BDA);
- finally, constitute the first real and concrete step towards the Italian Computing and Data Infrastructure (ICDI), laying the foundations for its southern part (ICDI-south) which will be part of the national project.
The achievement of this objective consists in the creation of a digital platform for scientific and technological collaboration and co-creation that acts as the engine of a sustainable collaborative ecosystem on a multi-regional scale, which is consistent with the thematic areas and intercepts the trajectories of development of the SNSI and those of the reference Regions, which is interoperable with the European Open Science Cloud and ready for the challenges of the next Framework Program “Horizon Europe”.
